Similar to the college student-athletes in the 5 km MPSF Open Water Swimming Championships held in Long Beach, California on Sunday, the masters swimmers enjoyed sunny skies, windless, warm, and tranquil conditions, and 65°F (18.3°C) water, Marine Stadium was an ideal setting for fast swimming.
Both in the masters 1 km and 5 km races, female swimmers topped the results.
In the 1 km race, Stephanie Peacock and Lexie Kelly were the fastest swimmers in 15 minutes 22 minutes. In the 5 km race, former American national champion (and the lone Maui Nui swimmer in history) Becca Mann was the fastest overall swimmer in 1 hour 9 minutes.

What is interesting to imagine is the speed that will be on display during the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games if the event is held in Marine Stadium.
“The athletes will be absolutely flying throughout the Olympic marathon swim,” predicted Steven Munatones. “Under these conditions – comfortable water conditions, flat tranquil conditions, rectangular course that is outlined by perfectly parallel shoreline to aid in navigation, no waves, expected no winds especially if it is a morning race, the speed of the Olympians will beoff the charts and a joy to observe.”

Hey Steve, thanks for the shout out. Great seeing you on the beach.
There is some confusion with the results so they have not been deemed “official” quite yet. xo
Jill Lin was right behind me for fourth overall out of the 1K with a 16:25. I was third overall.
Lex HIglet is a woman and listed with the men. Renate Schmidt is a woman and listed with the men. Again, not your fault, the results are incorrect.
