To date, 38 Special Olympics athletes who specialize in open water swimming from Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Cayman Islands, El Salvador, Gibraltar, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Malta, Korea, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Singapore and South Africa are entered in the 2011 World Summer Games in the new 1.5K open water swim.

The 1.5K open water race will be held off the coast of the city of Marathon in Greece in July.
