When Open Water Swimmers Lose Sight Of Shore

André Gide, a French author and winner of the Nobel Prize in literature in 1947, wrote a few apropos passages for the open water swimming community:

One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time

Fish die belly-upward and rise to the surface; it is their way of falling

And a quote that many race directors understand well enough, “Everything that needs to be said has already been said. But since no one was listening, everything must be said again.”
