Going To Be Giant Packs Around the Turn Buoys at the USA Swimming National Open Water 5 km Championships

Spread the love

USA Swimming will hold its Open Water National and Junior National Championships in Sarasota, Florida. The championships start with the 10 km race on April 2nd, followed by the 5 km race and 3 km Knockout Sprints on Friday, April 3rd.

The men’s 5 km starts at 8:00 am, followed by the women’s 5 km race at 8:50 am. Then the women begin their 3 km Knockout Sprints at 10:30 am, followed by the men’s 3 km Knockout Sprints at 12:00 pm.

The 5 km races have large fields (86 women and 77 men) at the Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida. With such large fields, there will be a lot of physicality around the turn buoys, especially in the expected flat-water conditions. The 3 km Knockout Sprints have smaller fields (28 women and 38 men), but in the initial 1.5 km heat, the packs are also expected to be large, physical, and competitive.

Watch the physicality and competition online. All races (10 km, 5 km, 3 km Knockout Sprints) will be live-streamed on the USA Swimming Network (watch for free here with Mike Lewis as the race announcer).
