Close Encounters from the Golden Gate to the Farallones

Simon Dominguez is originally from Sydney, Australia, but he is currently living in Marin County in northern California. He is the president of the South End Rowing Club in San Francisco Bay, California.

From the Golden Gate to the Farallones is a 37-minute documentary film about his attempt to swim from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Farallon Islands. When we made his attempt in July 2015, no swimmer had yet successfully completed a Farallones crossing in that direction.*

The Farallon Islands is a cluster of islands that lies 30 miles off the coast of San Francisco notoriously known for its large population of Great White Sharks. Dominguez, a hardened veteran of crossings of Lake Tahoe and the English Channel, pushed himself, but an encounter in the dark, cold waters was something that he had feared and prepared for.
