Unique Awards In The Open Water Swimming World at the Double Roughwater Swim

Over the years, the 7 km Hawaiian Christmas Looong Distance Invitational Rough-H20 Swim on Oahu across Waikiki Bay has given beautiful fish awards.

Above on the left, Cherelle Osteringer (23) in 1:30:43 and John de Mestre (52) in 1:33:01 won the 2014 event that follows the annual Waikiki Roughwater Swim.

Above in the middle, Eric Nilsson (25) in 1:32:54 and Victoria West (31) in 1:49:35 won the 2012 event that starts and finishes on Kaimana Beach in the shadows of the Diamond Head volcano.

Above on the right, Ryan Saunders (21) in 1:35:41 and Taylor Ritenberg (22) in 1:44:32 won the 2013 event that is usually held in December.

Event director and visionary Jim Anderson has long handed out many unique awards. Known locally as the Double Roughwater, the awards are colorful stain glass artwork and objects of local fish including clownfish and Humuhumu’ele’ele.
