27-year-old Jared Halliday conquered the final challenge in his trilogy by swimming from Robben Island to Bloubergstrand in 2 hours 45 minutes this morning.

This was Jared’s first Robben Island crossing, observed by Peter Bales, Chairman of the Cape Long Distance Swimming Association and accompanied by veteran Theodore Yach who completed his 61st Robben Island crossing.

After exiting the water Jared said, “This was by far the toughest of the three challenges. Theodore and I started swimming in 12.5°C (54°F) water, but the sea was flat.

There was a northerly swell and lots of sun which made the freezing water manageable. I am delighted to have fulfilled my goal at last.”
