Where Do Skippers Come From?

The word, skipper, mean the captain of any vessel or manager, coach or leader of a sports team. The common English word comes from a variety of sources including Middle English which was derived from the Middle Dutch word scip. It also was derived from Middle Low German and the Middle Dutch word schipper or shipper.
