The Bakersfield Swim Club hosted its first Pool Open Water event on the weekend in its 50-meter pool.

“It was small, but a good learning experience for all that competed in it. We had a participant there who had never swam a mile before and it was really exciting to see her finish it. Our masters swimmers used it as a way to help train and get an idea of where they were at for their triathlon training.

We hope to have our event grow next year,” stated Jen King, the race director and coach.

The top finishers included:

* Danielle Smith in the collegiate women’s division
* Josh De La Rosa in the collegiate men’s division
* Francesca Wyatt in the masters women’s division
* Paul Gamino in the masters men’s division
