Watch It, The Ultimate Test In The Open Water

The FINIS Hydro Tracker is going to be put to the ultimate test this weekend. Joe Locke, who will be attempting to swim 30 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Farallon Islands this Saturday, will strap a Hydro Tracker to his goggles.

Joe will face a maximum water temperature 50.2°F (10°C) and spots colder due to the deep upwellings, the turbulence of the Potato Patch, unpredictable winds, jellyfish and Great White Sharks lurking like few places on Earth.

Joe, like the others who attempt to replicate the 1967 swims of Stewart Evans and Ted Erikson, will be swimming solo a la English Channel style, following his escort boat but without a paddler or kayaker. [Read more…]
