Yes, I think my 52.and a half hours in the sea for that first three-way attempt was my best ever swim – which is odd really because it ended in failure. It was in 1975.
I do like to think it moved the goalposts and proved that a three-way could be done but it took the likes of Jon Erikson, Phil Russ and Alison Streeter to do that.
The other swims I’ve done which I really rate are the North Channel particularly the first one in 1970 when I set a new record of 11hrs 21mins,,my three two-way English Channel swims (35hrs in 1970, 36 hrs in 1975, 32 hours in 1987), Round the Isle of Wight (56miles -27hrs in 1971) Lake Balaton in Hungary (48miles – 43hours in 1973 ), the length of the tidal River Thames (47 miles – 17hrs in 1980 ) and Loch Ness (23miles – 10.5hrs.record in 1976) Others I think of are the Bristol Channel (1974 approx), Catalina Channel(2003), Chicago Shoreline(2002), Santa Barbara Channel(2007), the Wash (1973), Aurlandsfjord (2007), Lake Como winner (1982 approx), Sydney Harbour winner (1977), Round Manhattan (2001)., River Nile marathon (1974), Dingle Bay 2007 ) Loch Lomond (1967) – and 28 one way English Channl swims (1968 to 2006).
