Which Open Water Stars Will Emerge In Cozumel?

Warm, tropical waters sound very good to all the professional marathon swimmers who have been pounding out the miles in indoor pools and braving cold weather throughout the winter. They are all itching to head to Cozumel, Mexico next week for the next stop on the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup circuit.

The Mexican stop on the pro circuit on the absolutely stunning island of Cozumel will undoubtedly be a steppingstone for emerging swimmers.

Last year, Ous Mellouli gained invaluable experience that he leveraged to not only learn how to swim a 10 km race, but also to learn the strengths, weaknesses and tendencies of his competitors. This year, it will be interesting to see if France’s Romain Beraud can continue his streak on the World Cup circuit after winning two pro races earlier this year: the World Cup race in Santos, Brazil in January and La Patagones Viedma race in Argentina in February. As the early leader on the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup circuit, he will certainly have a target on his back.

There will be others who will emerge during next week’s outstanding competition at the Yucatan Peninsula that is hosted by Kiril Todorov and the Federación Mexicana de Natación. The Daily News of Open Water Swimming will tweet the action live (here).
