Short Or Long? USA Swimming Stars Go Long

The 2013 USA Swimming open water swimming champions, Alex Meyer and Christine Jennings, had a choice after their victorious and hard-earned wins at the national championships.
In addition to representing their country in the prestigious Olympic 10 km distance at the upcoming world championships in Barcelona, they could also swim the 5 km and/or the 25 km events. That is a huge difference in mental and physical preparation between a 5 km and 25 km race.
For most swimmers, the choice would have been easy.
But the pair both choose to do the longer 25 km event, proving their grit and toughness.
The rest of the USA Swimming national team includes the following athletes:
Haley Anderson, 5 km
Rebecca Mann, 5 km and 10 km
Christine Jennings, 10 km and 25 km
Eva Fabian, 25 km
Sean Ryan, 5 km and 10 km
Andrew Gemmell, 5 km
Alex Meyer, 10 km and 25 km
Jordan Wilimovsky, 25 km
The team has a lot of veterans, but there are two newcomers to the World Championship team who are anxious to prove themselves on the international stage: high schoolers Rebecca Mann and Jordan Wilimovsky. We are sure that Harvard graduate Meyer will school them and teach them the ropes.
