In an announcement made earlier today, the United Nations Environment Programme has appointed maritime lawyer, environmental campaigner, adventure swimmer, and ocean advocate Lewis Pugh as its Patron of the Oceans.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) provides leadership and encourages partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
Appointing Pugh was a masterful choice. “I’m looking forward to working hard to support their work,” said Pugh. “Especially in the creation of Marine Protected Areas around the globe.”
