Dryland training has always been part of the training of the most elite swimmers, whether it was in the pool or open water. The training ranges from bodyweight exercises like push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, glute bridges, air squats, and walking lunges to a multitude of strength training and flexibility exercises using a wide variety of equipment, treadmills, resistance bands, dumbbells, and barbells.

Chris Ritter has taken the concept of dryland training to an entirely different level through his groundbreaking online platform that offers virtual training and continuing education platform for swimming coaches, swimmers, triathletes, masters swimmers, and open water swimmers. His platform includes RITTER Sports Performance, SURGE Strength, and The Hive and offers the SURGE Strength Dryland Certification.

The former competitive and collegiate swimmer explains, “RITTER Sports Performance helps swimmers get stronger and coaches get better. It is an online, virtual training and continuing education platform for coaches, swimmers, triathletes, masters swimmers, and open water swimmers to achieve their performance goals. It is a dryland training resource with certification, education and programs for teams and individual swimmers.

Ritter spoke with Steven Munatones and Quinn Fitzgerald on the April 20th edition of WOWSA Live about his offerings, services, philosophies, periodization, and specifics of dryland training:
