An Open Water Gem – Fiji Pearls Ocean Swim

|

Another gem of a swim has popped up on the tropical ocean swim calendar. The Fiji Pearls Swim is the first open water swim on Fiji’s northern side. The 2 km, 5 km and 10 km swims will be hosted at the Daku Resort and sponsored by J Hunter Pearls with prizes of their unique premium quality pearls.

Fiji has hosted the Mana Fiji Swim Fest, Fiji Swims and Fiji Ocean Swim Festival over the past decade. Now, Fiji Pearls Swim is yet another gem on the South Pacific open water swimming calendar.

With its calm clear waters and tranquil way of life, Savusavu is a beautiful setting for the event. Swimmers will be eligible for pearls grown in Savusavu Bay itself. Their unique Fiji pearls come in lustrous colors of black, pistachio, champagne, chocolate and cobalt.

Not only will the 2 km swim start at one of the pearl farm platforms, but the 5 km and 10 km courses run above some of the oyster pearl farming lines. After the swims, participants have the option to participate in swim safaris led by Paul Ellercamp of OceanSwims.com.

The 3-day event schedule starts on Wednesday May 29th with the 10 km that is an out-and-back course from the Daku Resort to Jean-Michell Cousteau Resort. Timed with the rising tide on first leg and falling tide on return, the race promises to be fast. The following day, the 2 km goes from Pearl Farm to Daku Resort where the swimmers will be again aided with the rising tide. Swimmers finish the tropical extravaganza on Friday May 31st with a 5 km race from Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort to the Daku Resort swimming with the rising tide).
